“The Weblog Awards” will be closing their nominations in less then a week so click on over there if you are interested in adding a blog to this ever growing directory of blogs. I’m going to head over just to see what people are recommending. There are plenty of categories and lots of great blogs.

Rent My Blog

I’ve been looking at the current rage and upward trend in pricing of several blogs added to Rent My Blog. I find it a bit confusing to say the least.

A few thoughts on pricing and paying credits for blogs with Rent My Blog at BE.

I’m going to look at the past campaigns and take a look at how many unique hits and hits a blog has been sending. I’m going to look at the content of the blog. I’m not going to pay 300-500 credits for a blog that sent 1-5 unique hits in past campaigns. I’m going to use those credits right at blog explosion.

I’ve kept my pricing to what I consider a fair price. I think the idea is a great but I think the new craze has a few people dazzled on what to pay or charge. Good luck to all of you with your campaigns!

However, if someone is going to pay me 500 credits for a couple hits then maybe I should price it that way. However, I still like the old cliché an honest days work for an honest dollar or in this case credits.

What do you think of the current pricing on the blogs? How do you plan on using this feature? What are some of the benefits and downfalls you have thought of with this program?

Public Domain Book projects have been online for years now and I’m glad to see that some of the big corporations are promoting and supporting this cause like Google has with their recent PD project announcement on their blog. It is complicated to get into but there have been many copyright changes after the internet started providing public domain works. Are all the laws just and meant with good intention, I figure is for each individual to research and decide.

BlogCruiser Ramble & Rant

“The Depression of the Elites”, by Glenn Harlan Reynolds. This article had me pondering in many directions. Are some bloggers heading in the direction of an old design and creating a new elite rather then real change or improvement? Is this growth in new directions a place where we don’t create elites and the individual seizes more responsibility instead of having a fall person or hero?

Which train you’re on is one way of looking at as Glenn Harlan Reynolds stated. I figure it is what you have learned, believe, hope and dream for. These are powerful driving forces in many people’s lives that can be altered in bearing by the information obtained in life.

One of the differences I hope for with the old elite and the new age is more people taking responsibilities and actions with new communication and collaboration tools such as blogs, wikis and the internet to name only a few. Can more information be learned and processed to create a better world? I think so! It may not if we just use it to form new elites with a different technology. The growth would be smaller then I hoped for in that case.

Creating large social networks and truly aggregated news outlets with multiple opinions, interaction, ideas, hopes and solutions can be spectacular. Changing for the sake of change and changing the old bosses would be no more then a switch of power, which is sometimes needed to battle corruption and other negative forces but not always leading to better living or progress. Is a simple movement of the powers what the masses want or is real change in the world what many are looking for?

Blogging and the new media have the potential of becoming what we want them to be. If we feel the elites corporate, political or media are no longer standing for what we consider as progressive, right or true then we can empower change via outlets such as the new media.

Blogs, bloggers, blogging and other technological tools can propel change rapidly well beyond what the printing press achieved. So is it a time for a new revolution? It already started decades ago and is here to stay in my opinion. The latest uprising is of the same old design as past upheavals; it just has resources and technology on it side that have never been so understood and available to the masses. This creates a surplus of prospects that should make for a very out of the ordinary and electrifying future to be part of!

A remark like this could be anger, frustration or one of another elitist, “At any rate, Noonan is surely right that our current elites are not up to the task of steering the country. They're too ignorant, too insulated, and too concerned with "getting theirs."”

We all judge its human nature I do it all the time myself. However, don’t let anger, frustration or greed lead the way. Let’s hope that calculated ideas, innovative processes and strengthened values will be the directions that lead us progressively forward.

People have some serious amounts of learning, communicating and organizing to do! Time will tell for certain where the masses grow and go. What can be changed in the near future can be done at speeds that make me dizzy to think about. Are we ready? Can we actually improve things at speeds we have never seen before? Is society ready to handle the growth and speed of growth possibilities? Will things get better for everyone? I don’t know if I am ready but I’ve willing to try and see what comes of it all!

Will the current elite be able to assimilate the new media and just make it part of what was? Are the current elites actually already adaptable enough to change to the new demands and meet the current needs or desires of the new age? Will the new media if it did completely take over be any better then the old elites? Are there not already elites established in the new media?

Added Edit: I'm assuming it was a typo and then maybe not. Also, who made the typo if it was a typo, Yahoo or Reuters?

I must admit since the flag button has been put in place I've seen much better content filled blogs with the "next" button. I find it interesting that the implementation of the flag button came before the onslaught of complaints and barrage of splog spam that heated up the blogosphere about the blogger system.

So what is the fix for a problem such as this with out impeding on others free usage to publish? Where does the line get drawn and how is it fairly distributed?

Boom, bloom or doom --- Job Hunting --- The Rainbow Parachute

If there is anyone out there looking for a highly motivated, very reliable, honest, flexible, trustworthy, dedicated, and internet savvy employee; please feel free to email me for further enquiries. Please don’t send the marketing scams and other get rich quick schemes. I’m hunting for real work in the Charleston SC area. I’m willing to take a job but prefer a career move. I would like to stay in the above mentioned area but I am willing to move for the right wage or salary. A lot of travel to no travel and any level in-between is just fine. A small, medium, large or even huge company is also fine with me. This may not be the most productive or ingenious approach to finding a new job or it may land up being the best one. However, I’m going to use it as another outlet and tool any way. Of course, I’m utilizing many other avenues and outlets. I prefer to look at this approach as widening my network.

One of the effects I really enjoy about blogs and blogging are they can be so diverse. Let me see if I can make this blog related some how by looking for some blog related job resources:

“IFTF's Future Now as stated in the subtitle is all about: “Emerging technologies and their implications for the future.”, and more can be found out about the blog in this section: “What is Future Now?”. It’s an official blog that started back in 2003 for IFTF. There are huge amounts of materials, categories and archives to browse. It is fun to read with many topics discussed that almost guarantee everyone will find something of interest. The blog is crammed with perplexing to profound material that is fascinating to read, ponder, hope for or even worry about. A few title examples include: “Riya - Face Recognition Software”, “Governors Courting Bloggers”, “Caspian, RFID & Spy Chips” and “Quote of the day: Karl Schroeder, "Cyberspace, R.I.P.". I give 9.5 stars. Besides all the great material there is a consistent feed of other links blogged about. The links have interesting sites, blogs, papers, files and more that point to other views, products, services and happenings. An example would be “links for 2005-10-16“ with leads like “Cyberspace as American Culture”, “A Magna Carta for the Knowledge Age” and “DDJ>Is Cyberspace Dead?”. Put on those thinking caps and go over to soak up the subject matter posted by several bloggers.

“Andertoons Cartoon Blog” the blogger is a professional cartoonist, in the Chicago area, with a nicely designed and easily read blog. The emphasis is on the topic of cartoons with lots of dialogue in this area. The blog is part of a whole website that is charming to visit. It is a valuable and revealing resource with a cartoon of the day, links to various sections of the website, commentary/news, a dozen or so categories in the blog itself and lots of the artists work. It is a professional promotion and advertisement presentation with spark and speed. The blog and website are enjoyable, precise and concise. I give 9 stars. I’m trying out the “Free Daily Cartoon” myself in the sidebar for a while.

Yes, I have some small emotional flare ups here and there, some fun, some sad, some mad, some productive and a few others. I guess it is my way of saying yes I'm human, I'm here and not just a bot or machine. Have a great day!

Hmmm, it is not going to happen yet but I know eventually I will get my own domains up and running again. There are so many more possibilities and capabilities with your own domain. However, the dread of moving material is the difficult tasking. I tried to keep this in mind when I originally started BlogCruiser, however, it still will be a lot of work. Moving can be difficult even if it is all virtual. There seems like there would be a magic bot to make it all simple:)

I was sent a WordPress invite the other day and have to give it a good look through. It seems very WYSIWG and easy to manage.

Here I go again breaking rules, according to the post over at Blogging Pro that consolidated a quick read list of Jakob Nielsen’s “Weblog Usability: The Top Ten Design Mistakes”.

I can’t say I agree with all of this, all the time. It may work for certain people in certain situations but I don’t recommend this to a lot of bloggers. Each blog has its own purpose and these suggestions might work for you or against you! Jakob Nielsen’s does mention that this usability does not apply to some blogs because they are just for family or personal diaries. I feel there are a lot of blogs that some or all of these rules might not be advantageous.

I’m posting my 10 abbreviated responses below of why they may not be a good choice and you would need to pull up the post at Blogging Pro to see the “Weblog Usability” list and compare the two to make sense of the one below.

1. Privacy, prejudice, judging, assumptions, safety, mystery and lots more.

2. Same as 1.

3. I agree with this one. However, there are many other techniques that work well too.

4. Why do you need to know before you go somewhere, if the information is interesting? Plagiarism, integrity, and other issues may be a concern though if you aren’t citing but I don’t think this is what that was pointing at.

5. I agree with this one. Navigation tools and pointing out your good work seems like a logical move. However, search tools work well if you know how to use them. Let’s not dwell on the past though:) You are only as good as your last post:)

6. If all you want is the calendar then just use the calendar. This does make navigation simple. Having a 100 ways to one place seems like a Microsoft concept that I’ve never been real fond of. I have to concede I like categories which blogger doesn’t make easy.

7. There are lots of very interesting blogs with great posts and information that are inconsistent posters. Every blogger is not a full time journalist and may have other things in life to do besides blog. That doesn’t mean that blogger and others aren’t enjoying the blog!

8. Themes may be more professional, consistent and easy to follow but it is not what many blogs are all about. Many blogs are dairies, life journals just what that person wants to talk about or even therapy as a recent story suggested. These type blogs are going to mix topics and be complex which is a part of the quality and persona that make it real and interesting.

9. This could be another reason for staying as anonymous as possible.

10. Owning your own domain name is nice and has lots of advantages but it shouldn’t take away from those that don’t own a domain name. Judging free service blogs by the cover will hurt everyone and lose a large variety of voices and many quality voices from all over the world that may never be heard any other way.

If you are trying to become a professional blogger with in the boundaries of mainstream media concepts and rules almost all of the “Weblog Usability” ideas probably apply. I don’t say at all to throw all these suggestions out; I’m just saying think about them before you do apply them. Do they serve your purpose and audience the best? Use what works for you and throw out the rest. Most of us are not going to have huge audience blogs with thousands of hits a day. There may be a day in the lime light for some that have a hit post. Most of us will probably have more therapy and enjoy the opportunity to publish what we want to say to the world.

As my therapy continues… my programming fails and memory dumps…I’m running to the nearest blog to post again…help me…help me… the future of blogs oh my… where are they going… mainstream… money… power… "power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely"---not my quote… opportunity.. learning… web 2.0… open structure… hope… daunting and dangers stick… electrifying happenings… get back to the spotlighted blogs there cruiser… Ok, you can tell why I don’t run a humor blog…

“ProgrammableWeb” is a technical blog and website with lots of useful tips and pointers about Web 2.0 with a concentration in API’s and mashups. If you are a coder and want to earn some cash there are several programming competitions and contests listed in a recent post possibly worth $1,000’s of dollars to you. I’m simplifying it but don’t let the words API and mashups scare you away if your not a programmer. Mashups are just applications combining resources and the ProgrammableWeb blog points to lots of superb mashups that are beneficial and entertaining resources for everyone. Here are just a few that are mentioned: VGMap, phillycrime.org, Ning, toEat, start.com, Pervwatch and lots more. Along with the links are concise descriptions for each mashup or API. Here is one that would be great depending on how many people get involved with it: “Find Cheap Gas and more with tags - Update in Wiki style”. If you haven’t had your fill at the blog you can wander the rest of the web site too. I give 8.5 stars. Don’t let the buzzwords or new words scare you off. It’s like the word blogs it can be as simple as you want or you can dig in as deep as you want but there is something for everyone.

BlogExplosion - Rent My Blog

BlogExplosion - Rent My Blog is open for business and I'm going to give it a shot. Anyone else trying it out? Anyone have good, bad or indifferent experiences with this system yet?

I didn't like the 5 credit limit from the blog selling space but I will try and take advantage of it on the buying space from a blog.

That sure is a bargain in my opinion for the one renting the space for a link.

Also the 5 credits for renting appears it will just be for the beta period. Only time will tell it looks pretty good so far.

This post from “Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans?” kept me on the edge of my seat for a bit: “Some of us were discussing guns at work the other day. One of the girls told a story about being eight months pregnant and almost accidentally shooting her husband late one night when he unexpectedly came home early from working the late shift at one of the refineries. (This incident is not to be confused with the times she almost intentionally shot him.)” Go check it out. There is a lot more to this post. I found this post on BlogExplosion today.

I found this one funny over at Fugetaboutit, “I received the following e-mail from my wife. I just cut and pasted it word for word. I realize that I have taken my life, and probably my sex life, into my own hands (no pun intended) by doing this, but right now I feel the need to share. Here it is unedited. ” Obviously, there is a lot more to this one and worth a read in my opinion. The post title is “THIS MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE!!!!! I on the other hand am a dead man.” I discovered this post over at BlogSoldiers.

“Teh Blog Father” is on the prowl and asking for submissions to review blogs. So head on over, check out the blogs already reviewed and submit your favorite blogs if you are interested. I came across this one on the Blogger Next Button.

Decadent Tranquility – is promoting United Devices and asking you to join their team over there fighting Cancer by crunching molecules. There is colorful and wild imagery over there too. This blog also brought to mind “Nanobombs aim to eradicate cancer”, a study and fight against cancer.

Chasing The Moon............ with “It's All Perspective............. - In the aftermath of Katrina as we continue receiving the sobering facts of the death toll, I'm in awe. This catastrophe has affected our nation, our government, our politics, and has ignited debates and arguments among even the of closest friends.” I found this post surfing BlogExplosion. This blogger is bringing a few perspectives and statistics to light on Katrina and other natural disasters.

Here are some more thoughts and issues about the “OPML hassles switching from Bloglines to Google Reader”, at explodedlibrary.info. Then there are some question and answers over at “Webby's World: Bloglines to Google RSS” related to this same subject. There have been some major design changes over there since my last visit to Webby's World!

Kingdom of Heaven

Wow, I just watched “Kingdom of Heaven” and what a great movie in my opinion. I mean a lot of underlying statements and some very fascinating history portrayed very well; especially, if you consider all the underlying connections with today’s current affairs that are going on between the Christian and Muslim religions or countries. I just wish they didn’t show them shaking hands during the one scene and then using the right hands to top it. There were no new earth shattering special effects or anything like that but the acting, story and execution were excellent. Here are a few other excerpts from blogs I found mentioning this film. It goes down as a classic in my book.

“The Martian Anthropologist” has lots of thought-provoking commentary on current news and events. There are plenty of questions and ideas with invigorating rhetoric which appears to stimulate quite a few responses. This self proclaimed atheist and anti Bush blogger approaches a variety of interesting topics with some rather interesting points-of-view worth contemplating. One post,” To Protect And To Serve?” has commentary and questions about what do we need police for. I give 7.5 stars. Debating, critical thinking and open discussion are encouraged at this blog but name calling and childish behavior are not tolerated. There are a few months of archives along with a standard blogger template design. The material may not be for everyone but I enjoy reading a variety of view points and found some interesting topics, replies and quotes during my visits to this blog.

What is a Blog?

What is a blog? There appears to be many on-going discussions, debates and definitions over this word. Does such a simple thing as a word become a complicated and clouded issue? It’s was a buzzword placed on a form of communication that a great deal of people are now accepting and utilizing as a real word in our living language.

A blog is a journal, a dairy, a news report, a forum, a discussion, a statement, an interactive den, a place to visit, a place for fun, a place to laugh, a place to ridicule, a place to leer, a place to be suspicious, a place to meet people, a place to question, a place to start movements, a place to debate, a place for prose, a place for presentation, a collaboration, a political movement and just a place to electronically communicate any way you desire. I guess I could go on forever with a list since it can encompass anything.

Definition as listed over at free dictionary for:
web – “6. Often Web The World Wide Web.“
log – “4. A record, as of the performance of a machine or the progress of an undertaking: a computer log; a trip log.“

Blog was derived from the words web log and now for short blog.
The definition of a blog at free dictionary is:
“To write entries in, add material to, or maintain a weblog.”

Is a newspaper a blog? Is a web page with dated entries a blog? Is a running sheet of news events a blog? Is a running set of commentary a blog? Sure, they can all be blogs.

IMHO, it’s a name for electronically published pages that someone can utilize, own and operate. It is the citizen’s media, a citizen’s therapy, and a citizen’s power. Maybe above all what a blog means to me is the public’s awareness that they now have at their disposal a public forum to speak and communicate too much of the world. Blogs are a low cost means of communications and publications for the masses. Owning your own Newspaper or Magazine in the past was expensive cumbersome and time consuming. Now, in the electronic and blogging age the expenses have been curbed extensively, cumbersome is becoming usable and time consuming it can still be.

I don’t think I’m going to worry too much if something is a blog or not. If you want to call it a blog feel free to do so!

The link to Blog Goodies looks rather interesting while I always have to check out the other sides of situation too, even if it is an Anti-Blog. An Anti-blog with a blog I can get a bit confused with that concept.

Thinking!!! Are we? bats around the proposal of “$100 PC?”. I say let’s go one step further and create the $1.00 PC and really make it affordable for everyone including the poor. I think it is more then possible just a bit of off the beaten path. A $1.00 PC would give people a real choice between a lottery ticket that is a million to one or 1:1 of real education, profit and communication benefits by buying that $1.00 PC.

What is happening around the blogospere in blogging features, news and stories? Marc Ninthly rambles and rants a bit about bloggers and traditional media in “"Blogging rulez revealed"over at the Inquirer.

Over at C-NET opinions and discussion goes on about the current debates of the Free Flow of Information Act “"Bloggers feeling dissed by federal shield law". I’m not to concerned at this point, I figure I live in America and I’m going to write what I want no matter what they decide in the caves or on the hill. There are a few interesting quotes attached, from different people, to this story like Earl Benser writing, "Blogging is no more than diarrhea of the keyboard, and deserves no protection from anything.”.

An article at AlterNet the "Blogs of War" By Daniel Schulman contemplates and debates some of the impacts that have been and can be created by War Blogging. This topic will probably always be a touchy blogging topic, in my opinion. It’s great to read perspectives from those that are nearest the truth.

The Christian Post has an article posted, “"GodBlogCon2005: First Religious Blogging Convention" which informs of the event and some details of the rising use of blogs in the religious sector.

So you want to blog and make money from it. Scott Allen has spent some time, energy and done some research in “Make Money Online (Without Spending a Dime)" at About.com. There are several different approaches and strategies suggested for developing income from your blogging.

Sphere is not open to actually see yet but they allow you to send in an email to possibly get a peek at their beta coming soon.

NOTE: I don’t like this trend of collecting emails to get into a BETA launch before they even really tell you who they are. It’s prompting me to create additional emails to avoid any fraud or spam issues. This type marketing makes me a bit uncomfortable but a lot of site launches seem to be doing it. I guess curiosity is a good seller for signups; but signups beware. I’m not saying for these particular sites but any site collecting information and not having a good privacy statement and information on who they are could be dangerous.

Blog Mad is using the same signup technique and stating they are going to be a new blog traffic exchange.

Rent My Blog is the next upcoming additional feature that BlogExplosion appears to be adding next week. They do seem to be on a roll over there at BE.

Blog Core Values is doing a bunch of analyzing and writing about different aspects of blogging from creativity to overlapping posts.

CMS and Blogging a good thing...

Content Management Systems (CMS) have brought blogging a long way. Or has blogging brought CMS a long way? I don’t know but I think both of them have brought the public into a fantastic new information age.

Unlike the intimidation of a web page, homepage, HTML, coding or the old buzzword CMS, blogging has become an easy to utilize format that the average person can communicate, design, plan, manage, do business or just have fun with.

It has become easy to create your own well designed and easy to update online content. Now with more intuitive content management systems and Web 2.0 being integrated the things that can and will be done are just exhilarating and amazing.

The end is near, phew, the beginning is here as I see it. A new revolutionary age of knowledge that can be available to everyone. It is not about the tools or technology but the ability to communicate, inform, educate and give the opportunity for a society to mature. Growth can be scary, painful and challenging; I think we have the ability to take these challenges now.

“I Feel Pithy” is a centrally focused and themed blog about the subject of banned books by professional writer Chasty M. Moody. There are plenty of informational resources and links with an assemblage of prose informing the readers about banned books, censorship along with a few reviews on banned books by the author. The archives were a bit confusing while I was visiting because they were just the previous posts listed by title not by daily, weekly, monthly, yearly or categories. I enjoyed the clean and roomy template design. This author encourages reading banned books, the 50 Books Challenge, censorship and the ALA Banned Book week. “How Many Have You Read?” is a post leading you to the “The 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books between 1990 and 2000”. I give 7.5. Nicely launched topic oriented blog, very informative, that certainly encourages a good cause and reminds me a bit of Fahrenheit 451. The Blog Herald had some information links to some background on a bit of research of the Weblogs Inc buy. I added a comment to that post and I’m posting it below too. Below my comment I will have a lot more questions that maybe some one out here can answer. I’m letting my curiosity get the best of me to much here but all I’ve seen so far are a lot of headlines that aren’t making sense to me. I’m not angry. I’m not debating, it just doesn’t compute in this brain of mine. I see headlines like “AOL Buying Weblogs Inc., Media Not So Traditional Anymore”. One question here above is blogging going mainstream or is mainstream socially engineering and taking over blogging?

Thanks for the link on this subject and set of information. I was asking some of these questions in my head and on my blog the other day.

It’s seems it would be difficult to price what is intellectual property and then add in the virtual and unknowns. I would still be very cautious investing in this market moving ahead. I would like to see more thorough analysis of these buys and why.

Obviously, the big companies are seeing the value in acquiring these virtual properties and traffic but what are the reasons behind it? Times are economically treacherous with what is going on all around the world. What are the business models and finances behind these purchases? Is it if you own the monopoly you win?

I saw another article that mentioned the last time AOL bought up virtual property was preceding the big DOT.COM bust. Sorry, I can’t seem to find the reference link for exact details on that one.

I’m very suspicious of this whole deal. It is a lot of money for Weblogs Inc for what a big corporation could have worked around and created themselves for much less. I had a site many years ago that had more content and pages then this entire network The links were probably almost comparable in number if you put in ratio to what the size of the internet is now and what it was then. I was a one man band hand coding at the time. I don’t mean to be cynical or conspiratal, but something just doesn’t appear copasetic, especially with the numbers shown in the above link and information.

With the right resources and far less, and I mean far less from the amount spent on this acquisition I could build a much larger network of blogs, linkage and visitor base in six months. Yes, I have the complete confidence in being able to do this. So why did the big guy with the money make this deal?

I noticed the extra information I’ve been picking up is not much besides editorials and quick headlines. There really hasn’t been a lot of solid real data, analysis and research that I’ve been able to find in the public areas. So I need to do a bit more research on my own and maybe some of you great people can point me in the right direction.

Now here is this giant corporation AOL that could have built a network such as Weblogs Inc for pennies on the dollar, if at even that much of a cost, almost over night. So why are they paying all this money? Business is not usually about charity in America. That was not meant as an insult to Weblogs Inc they built a rather large useful to many network of blogs. I can’t see the value from the AOL stand point. I’m really not trying to stomp on the parade; something is just not right from my point of view.

I won’t finish this post tonight heading out to the movies shortly but I want to start with some thoughts and questions.

What are we selling the content, writers, links, name, blogs and maybe server and hardware? They are probably on virtual farm servers somewhere with a lease but I’m only guessing. They may own those at Weblogs Inc but that still is a minimal investment for a few blogs in the network. AOL would already have all this hardware and maybe need a couple extra harddrives to build this network. They could use employees but it would be much cheaper for the company to use the same type socially engineering of content providers that Weblogs Inc did. No benefits, not employees less then minimum wage provided to the people providing the content and work. Yes, many of these people did it for different reasons like labor of love or the attention or glory. There are many other reasons I’m sure. “Weblogs Inc., pay rates revealed by disgruntled potential recruit”. Let’s see a few years ago contractors made a lot more then regular employees because they saved the company lots of money. However, the way of the present and future in America is to source it out where you can make it much cheaper. These social networking and engineering techniques are a like marketing pyramids schemes; where a few make a lot of money off the labor of many that are not going to get much of anything. I could be wrong and all the contracted bloggers over there at Weblogs Inc are going to be taking care of either compensated well from the payoff or employed by AOL. Something tells me that will not be the case but I could be completely wrong. I will probably never know because HR of today would never allow this type information to be released and if people involved said anything they would lose their jobs.

That brings me to a few questions question:

Are these workers that helped building these blogs and network being compensated?

Are these bloggers going to move on?

If so I can assume that people weren’t part of the buy when AOL made this deal. Oh yeah that’s right you can’t sell people in a company as part of the package can you? I would think that could be considered indentured servitude.

If they are moving on is that not going to change the product AOL just bought?
Are the faces of this network going to change possibly quite a bit to fit the company policies of AOL?

Is this a little like packaging and selling air? I’m still trying figure out what the money is buying, I guess that is my big question?

OK, I have to run and I didn’t edit this or even come near finishing this the way I would like too. I’m going to post it anyway because I would like to really get a clue on this one, because it has me lost! I will need to do a lot more editing; research and reviewing so don’t slam me to much for my questions and research yet. Please feel free to point me to any data and information that could help me comprehend what is really going on here, thanks.

An in-depth point of view has been posted about the movie Pleasantville recently. There are several wonderful and unique skin designs available to view and cruise this blog. The Meep skin is the one I like the most. Easy navigation filled with lots of scripts for stats, users, recent posts, top 10 this week, blogroll, archives, skin changes and more. I’ve mentioned “Free-For-All Friday” before, which is a great little meme idea also residing at this blog. “Webby's World” is a bit technical and probably some what cryptic at times for those with little background in web lingo and or technical worlds. However, I get the impression Joe is a motivated individual working hard to present and translate some web applications and services to everyone. I also get the feeling he would be willing to answer, if anyone had questions. If you take the time and read the posts they are fairly straight forward. A recent post explains to you how to import your files from Bloglines to Googles new RSS reader, if you are interested in trying it out. He explains how-to in several simple steps. Just forget about those technical buzzwords and follow the directions in the “Bloglines to Google RSS” posting. In another how-to post called “Linklogging, bookmark management... what ever you want to call it.”, he explains how to utilize Furl and del.icio.us. I found the the "blogger code" link at Webby’s and will probably add it to BlogCruiser; it’s one of those fun little blogthings to render on your blog if you want. The blog graphic header projects the character and atmosphere of this blog to me well. I give 8 stars. I’m not sure exactly what audience he would like to speak with but if it is the non-technical there may be room for some more translation and definitions. If it is for the real technical maybe bring it up a notch. There are several months of archives along with quite a few appealing posts and useful tips to read.

Traffic Exchanges are not for everyone! They take time, energy, learning and most you need to surf. However, I find them useful for getting new people to see my blog. Many blogs are a labor of love and people want others to see and comment on them. If you have no desire for others to see your blog don’t use these services. Also don’t expect a traffic exchange to build a popular blog alone. Research, content, quality and many other efforts such as skills, work, advertising, timing, networking and even luck can all be important parts involved with building your blog. My suggestion is do something you enjoy and be concerned with your quality and content; don’t worry so much about traffic.

BlogExplosion has kicked up their heels and strived to beat competition which is a good thing in my minds eye; I think this assisted in some Blogexplosion improvements. I feel BlogExplosion is the leader of the pack right now. I still use BlogSoldiers, BlogClicker, Blogazoo and Blogxchange to mention some of the blog exchanges I’m using. One of the newer ones that I’m currently trying is BlogAdvance and it seems fair so far. They accomplish the goals. I don’t see a lot to make them stand out from rest.

Every system is different though and they form their own communities, so it doesn’t hurt to try a couple and see which one or ones work for you.

BEWARE, I see possibilities of others showing up on the scene that I’m going to be much more cautious about. MyBlogBlaster does not sound like a nice idea from my experience with modern day ffa links. When free for all links (FFL) started, many years ago they were fun. However, they became very automated and used for adding names and sites to mailing and spam lists and that made them no longer any fun or useful to me. I’m not saying that is what this one will do but it sure looks like that type of setup. I don’t know about you but 723000 links that get my email doesn’t make me feel real comfortable.

“Evil Genius Chronicles” states with the subheading that this is “A Journal of geekery, music and joy”. There is lot’s of heart felt, straight shooting commentary. The posts are filled with this bloggers creative style on all types of subjects but more on music, computers and tech. There are years of archives to browse through listed back all the way to 2002. Dave Slusher's bounces out at you with his recent post, "Converge South, Day 1+". This bloggers persona rigorously projects in “Twinkle in My Jaundiced Eye”. His views are not over excited about the AOL acquisition of Weblogs Inc. There is plenty of individualism, satire and commentary in the Twinkle post that you will probably not read or hear screaming out over the older powerhouse news wires. I give 9 stars. The blogosphere has plenty of places where people like to speak their minds and this blogger definately projects his rhetoric in a powerful, clear and precise manner. Plenty of talk about tech stuff, mp3s, podcasts, radio shows, books, video blogs and lots and lots more.

“Hitchhiker's Guide to the Blogosphere” by Troy Worman and Stephen Sherlock who have shared ideas, politics, and views with each other for years and now they are sharing them with rest of the blogosphere. There are several months of archives and the blogs main focus has a steady theme of pointing out other interesting blogs. It’s a clean design, easy to read and simple to navigate blogger blog. I give 7 stars. A large variety of blogs are being linked to. I was going to use this title “Hitchhikers Guide to the Blogosphere“ on a blog post and decided to google it before I posted one and stumbled across this blog. Now, I’m back to the drawing board or maybe not I was just going to use it for a post title.

Oh, Mainstream and Blogging?

I thought about this to start but what did they buy? “AOL To Acquire Weblogs” a network of blogs? Then there is “VeriSign snags Weblogs.com” Would some of the business wise bloggers out here help me to enlightenment, please?

Why did they buy these online properties? What did they acquire with the blogs on the network at WeblogsInc? Are all these blog writers from Weblog Inc working for AOL now? Why would VeriSign want Weblogs.com? Did they buy the names? Did they acquire the patents or copyrights of the name or marketing ideas? Who gets what here and why?

This seems like a lot of money exchanged. I’m trying to fathom what all the goods are being purchased and sold? I won’t assume that these big companies and corporations know what they are buying but I think and hope they would.

What are the actual physical assets of these two companies?
What are the actual income assets of both these companies that were bought?
What are the real and potential marketing values of these online systems?
What do these virtual entities provide for the companies that are buying them?
Sure the plans have business secrets; I would figure there must be some sound business assumptions that can be made about these acquisitions.

If you have information, more detailed stories, your own assumptions, scoops and ideas please add them for my mental consumption. I know you can’t give me a whole education in business. I would like to come to some grips of how this much money could be paid for services such as this… …I’m a bit confused for the moment while lost in the dollars signs. :)

Don’t forget you can always submit your favorite links to Fark. Never can tell what you might find over there in the treasure trove dungeons from mundane to obscurity, trite to fantastic, polite to rude, childish to adult and useless to very helpful.

CafePress is growing and showing up in a group of sidebars. I guess many of us can use a bit more cash or ways to promote novelties. It is a nice concept for creating and selling products. I wonder if I should consider this for BlogCruiser items. Advertising and making cash from it all wrapped up in one service.

Plenty of what is happening in the world or at blogs can be found at places like Rojo, Blogsnow, Blogdex, Bloglines, The Blog Herald and Blogger News Network. Google, Yahoo and other giants in the battle of the blog search spin.

Guides to blogging, help with blogging, blogging services and where to go. In the news, in business meetings, from CEO to employees, to the unemployment lines or new jobs, raising funds for disasters to awareness in news or politics you can find blogging alive and not slowing down.

Money, conferences, meetings planning and the list never seems to end
Is there a new era being spawned by the communication and publishing technologies? I think it might just be; what are your thoughts on the subject? Where are blogs going? What will happen to blogging? Will blogs have a large affect on society, news and people?

Court Rules in Favor of Anonymous Blogger (BlogCruiser Note: The war will be waged again, I’m sure. However, I look at this as a battle won.)

Weblogs.com sold to Verisign? (BlogCruiser Note: Big dollars whew, I can’t blame someone for taking a deal like that! It looks like a major change hitting the blogosphere that will not all be good or bad. Money, power and all that jazz just tend to have a lot of influence on any atmosphere and how things get spun.

On another sidebar note via this topic: I wish I had a set of blogs that someone was willing to pay 25 million dollars for, along with the nerve or some might call stupidity, to say the blogs not for sale, SORRY. I would enjoy doing that! Later after the pleasurable moment I could head back to the poor house and bang my head against the wall. :)
